Director

Sandra Laronde is an award-winning director, choreographer, producer, playwright, and storyteller whose work spans theatre, dance, music, film, and large-scale multidisciplinary creation.

For nearly three decades, Sandra has created original works that explore story, identity, belonging, and our relationship to the natural world. Her artistic practice is rooted in innovation and experimentation, bringing together movement, theatre, music, visual design, and Indigenous ways of knowing to create powerful and transformative artistic experiences.

She has played a leading artistic role as a director, choreographer, or both on productions including She Holds Up the Stars, Miigis, Adizokan, Backbone, Trace, Great Lakes, and Tono. Her work is known for its emotional depth, visual imagination, and ability to weave together story, movement, music, and design in compelling ways.

Sandra has also directed three digital films and served for nine years as Director of Indigenous Arts at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, where she developed innovative programs in dance, music, writing, film, storytelling, and new media, supporting generations of Indigenous artists from across Canada and around the world.
